In a recent meeting with the HRera chief, homebuyers of five affordable housing projects by Mahira Homes in Gurugram demanded the securing of project sites and construction material. This comes after the regulator revoked the registration of the projects. The homebuyers also requested details of the financial status of the projects, including the amount collected and withdrawn by the developer.

The HRera had revoked all five affordable housing projects of the developer two weeks ago for failing to comply with the provisions of the Rera Act and complete the projects. Around 5,000 homebuyers who booked flats in these projects in 2017 and 2018 are struggling to get their homes. The allottees alleged that the developer has transported construction materials from the Sector 68 project site to another location after the registration revocation.
During the meeting with HRera officials, the allottees expressed apprehension that the builder may damage the projects. They demanded protection of the materials from theft, immediate notice posting at the site, and increased security. They also urged for the restart of work on the stalled projects and requested to be informed about the future roadmap for their projects.
Sachin Kumar, General Secretary of the Mahira Homes in Gurugram 68 buyers association, stated, “Our first demand was to protect the material from theft from the Sector 68 site. A notice should be put up on the site immediately, and security should be increased to avoid further losses. Our second major demand was for work on our stalled project to start as soon as possible, and we should be informed about the future roadmap being prepared for our project.”
HRera officials assured action on the demands. The buyers, troubled for the last six years, hope for action from the department. The builder has appealed against the revocation notice in the RERA Appellate Tribunal.
Tarang Agarwal, another buyer, expressed frustration, saying, “We are tired of visiting all the departments for the last two years, but the department has not helped us. We have held 25 protests in Gurgaon, Samalkha, and Jantar Mantar, but the housing scheme launched by the Prime Minister has failed. We demand help from all the departments and request them to build houses for us as soon as possible.”
