Palam Vihar Illegal Flats Sealed:Major Crackdown in Gurugram

In a major move to curb illegal construction in Gurugram, the District Town Planner-Enforcement (DTPE) has initiated action to seal 150 Palam Vihar illegal flats in C-2 Block. Amit Madholia, the DTPE, has called for police deployment and the appointment of a duty magistrate to oversee the sealing operation.
These flats, spanning across 10 residential plots, violate approved building norms. The developers constructed four units per floor, but only one unit per floor is permitted. Additionally, instead of the permissible limit of four floors, builders constructed 14 to 16 flats per plot, overwhelming the area’s infrastructure. The surge in illegal flats has led to severe pressure on local resources, including parking, water supply, and sewage systems.
Frustrated with the impact of these illegal constructions, residents of C-2 Block took their grievances to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The petitioners emphasized the adverse effects on public amenities and the overall quality of life in the area. They also pointed out that the original design intended to house just four families per plot, but the builders exploited the space, disregarding zoning regulations, resulting in the proliferation of Palam Vihar illegal flats.
In response, former DTPE, Manish Yadav, had sealed the under-construction flats last month. However, builders brazenly broke the seals and resumed construction. This blatant defiance of the law has prompted authorities to take stronger legal measures, including potential criminal cases against the offenders.
To prevent fraudulent transactions, the tehsildar has been instructed to restrict any sale or purchase of the Palam Vihar illegal flats. The sealing drive in C-2 Block is just the beginning, with DTPE plans to extend the survey to other parts of Palam Vihar, where complaints of illegal construction are rising.
Authorities have urged residents to report violations, promising swift action against erring builders. Madholia emphasized that residential plots in the area are limited to a maximum of four floors. Any deviation from this regulation will result in sealing, transaction bans, and severe legal consequences.
With this crackdown, the DTPE aims to protect Gurgaon’s urban infrastructure and ensure that vital resources remain accessible to all residents. The ongoing crackdown on illegal flats signals the need for strict adherence to building norms to maintain a balance between urban growth and regulatory compliance.
