Noida Authority to Demolish 200+ Illegal Buildings

The Noida Authority has identified more than 200 unauthorized structures, including showrooms and flats, built on government-notified land without proper permission. The Authority is set to demolish these illegal buildings, as the owners failed to comply with previous notices.

This action follows the final notices issued to property owners, giving them 15 days to present their cases. As the deadline nears, the Authority plans to proceed with demolitions unless satisfactory responses are received.

Barola Leads the Charge

In the initial phase of inspections, numerous buildings in Barola have been flagged for demolition. Police support has been requested to ensure the process is carried out smoothly and without disruption.

Earlier this year, the Noida Authority engaged an agency to manage the demolition of taller structures, but the process was delayed after some owners sought a legal stay through the courts. Following a recent court directive, final notices were issued to the owners, paving the way for further action.

Key Areas Affected

Barola alone has around 14 identified illegal buildings, with other areas such as Salarpur and Hajipur seeing approximately 20 and 30 unauthorized structures, respectively. Many of these buildings have been occupied for years and come with basic amenities, including parking and electricity, despite being built on illegally acquired land.

The involvement of land mafias has been a major contributor to this issue. These mafias often acquired or encroached on government land by purchasing it from unsuspecting farmers.

Ongoing Efforts to Address Encroachments

Since August, the Noida Authority, in collaboration with the district administration, has been conducting inspections across several villages, uncovering widespread land encroachments. In total, the Noida Authority has reclaimed around 45 acres of encroached land this year, valued at over ₹900 crore. Since 2020, the Authority has freed about 135 acres of land worth over ₹2,000 crore across various sectors and floodplains along the Yamuna and Hindon rivers.

Encroachment Hotspots

Areas like Sadarpur, Haibatpur, Parthala Khanjarpur, Mamura, Sorkha Zahidabad, and Gulawali are hotspots for encroachments. Additionally, newer sectors such as 150, 152, 162, and 164, which are still under development, face similar challenges. Official data shows that approximately 1,400 acres of land in Noida are still encroached.
