Gold Line Metro Extension Boosts Noida Airport Connectivity

As Noida gears up for the launch of the Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar next year, the city is making significant strides to enhance its metro connectivity. A key proposal from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) suggests extending the Gold Line metro to improve access between Noida and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
The Gold Line Metro Extension Proposal
The DMRC has proposed the Gold Line metro extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj via a 5-km elevated corridor. This project, estimated to cost ₹950 crore, will connect Kalindi Kunj to Noida’s Botanical Garden Metro Station, a major interchange hub for the Blue and Magenta lines.
The Gold Line metro extension, currently in advanced construction stages, already links Aerocity and Tughlakabad. Once the extension is completed, passengers will have a direct metro route to Aerocity and easy interchange access to Terminal 3 via the Airport Express Line.
Enhanced Metro Grid in Noida
Botanical Garden, a key metro hub in Noida, is poised to become even more significant with this extension. The station currently functions as a connecting hub for the Blue and Magenta lines. Additionally, Noida Metro’s Aqua Line expressway leg (from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden) has been approved and is awaiting central clearance.
The proposed Gold Line metro extension, coupled with the Aqua Line’s expansion, will further integrate Noida’s metro network. It will establish seamless connectivity from Greater Noida’s Pari Chowk to IGI Airport, providing an efficient alternative for commuters traveling between Jewar and Delhi.
Long-Term Plans and Interim Solutions
While long-term plans, such as a rapid rail corridor connecting the Delhi-Meerut RRTS with Noida Airport, remain on the drawing board, the Gold Line metro extension offers a faster solution. It is expected to be operational within three years, compared to the rapid rail’s estimated timeline of over five years.
In parallel, Noida International Airport has announced its own taxi service, and authorities are exploring bus connectivity to key points in the NCR.
Next Steps for the Gold Line Metro Extension Project
The DMRC has included provisions for two new metro stations at Sarita Vihar Depot and Madanpur Khadar as part of the Gold Line metro extension. The proposal has been submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government and awaits approval from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The project’s future hinges on securing funding and the CM’s review.
This development is poised to transform Noida’s transit landscape, offering enhanced connectivity for residents and boosting the city’s appeal as a business and residential hub.
