Gurugram Metro Expansion: Key Updates Ahead of Dec 24 Meeting

Gurugram’s metro network is poised for a significant transformation, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini scheduled to chair a high-level meeting on December 24 to assess progress on key Gurugram Metro Expansion projects. The agenda will include discussions on the 28.8km Millennium City Centre-Cyber City metro corridor, a crucial addition to the city’s infrastructure.
Millennium City Centre-Cyber City Line
A major part of the Gurugram Metro Expansion, this corridor spans 28.8km with 27 elevated stations, connecting Millennium City Centre to Cyber City via Old Gurgaon. Officials revealed that technical and financial evaluations are underway to finalize the appointment of a general consultant for the project. Eight companies have already submitted bids, and the selected consultant will manage procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.
A Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) official stated, “The detailed design consultant is finalizing route alignments and stations, while steps are being taken to appoint a general consultant soon. Updates on finances, staffing, and coordination efforts will also be presented during the meeting.”
Key interchange points on the line include Cyber City, connecting to Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line and Rapid Metro, and Hero Honda Chowk, linking to the proposed rapid rail network. This makes the Millennium City Centre-Cyber City line a pivotal component of the Gurugram Metro Expansion.
Sector 56-Pachgaon Metro Corridor
Another significant project under the Gurugram Metro Expansion is the Sector 56-Pachgaon metro line. The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) is moving this project forward, having secured board approval for its draft detailed project report (DPR). Unlike other metro initiatives, this 36km corridor, with a budget of ₹8,500 crore, will be developed independently by the Haryana government without central funding.
The corridor will feature 28 elevated stations, connecting critical areas like Golf Course Extension Road, Southern Peripheral Road, Central Peripheral Road, and new sectors along the Dwarka Expressway. Sector 56 will act as an interchange station for the Rapid Metro line. Moreover, it will connect to the proposed Bhondsi–Gurgaon Railway Station line at Vatika Chowk and the rapid rail station at Kherki Daula. These developments further underscore the significance of the Gurugram Metro Expansion.
Other Metro Expansion Plans
The HMRTC board has also approved:
- A draft techno-feasibility report has been completed for the Bahadurgarh-Palwal metro corridor, along with a draft ridership assessment report for the Bahadurgarh-Asaudha route.
These projects, along with the ongoing Gurugram Metro Expansion, highlight the state government’s commitment to building a robust and interconnected metro network in Gurugram. This initiative aims to boost connectivity and ease commuting for residents, while also fostering economic growth.
As the December 24 meeting approaches, the focus remains on ensuring timely execution of these transformative projects under the broader Gurugram Metro Expansion umbrella.
