Union Cabinet Approves Construction of Three Crore Houses Under PMAY

In a landmark decision, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Construction of Three Crore Houses Under PMAY(Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana). This decision was made during the first meeting of the Modi 3.0 government at the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, attended by ministers from all NDA allies.

The approved assistance aims to address the housing needs of three crore additional rural and urban households. This move is expected to cater to the growing number of eligible families requiring housing. Officials stated, “It has been decided in the Cabinet meeting today to provide assistance to three crore additional rural and urban households for the construction of houses to meet the housing requirements arising out of the increase in the number of eligible families.”

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been in effect since 2015-16, focusing on providing assistance for constructing houses with basic amenities to eligible households in both rural and urban areas. Prime Minister Modi praised the decision, calling it a significant boost for the “ease of living” and dignity of millions of Indians.

In a post , Modi emphasized the government’s dedication to addressing the nation’s housing needs and ensuring an improved quality of life for every citizen. He remarked, “This decision underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of our nation and ensuring that every citizen leads a better quality of life. The expansion of PMAY also highlights our government’s commitment to inclusive growth and social welfare.”

Over the past decade, PMAY has successfully completed 4.21 crore houses for eligible poor families. These houses come equipped with essential amenities, including household toilets, LPG connections, electricity, and functional tap water connections, achieved through the convergence of various central and state government schemes.

This expansion of the PMAY program is a testament to the government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive growth and improve the quality of life for all citizens by ensuring access to adequate housing and basic amenities.
