PMAY-G to Add 30 Lakh Rural Homes in UP by 2025-26

Uttar Pradesh is set to witness a major boost in rural housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G). Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya announced that the state government aims to construct 30 lakh additional houses in the next phase of the scheme, aligning with the Centre’s ambitious target of building two crore new homes across India during the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Survey for New Beneficiaries Underway
The government has initiated an online survey to identify new beneficiaries, leveraging the recently launched Awas Plus app. The digital platform, featuring face authentication and unique login credentials for Gram Panchayat secretaries, ensures a transparent and fair selection process. Additionally, rural families can now self-register through the app, making the scheme more accessible and inclusive. The survey is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2025.
Expanded Eligibility Criteria in PMAY-G
A key update to the scheme is the expansion of eligibility criteria:
- Families earning up to ₹15,000 per month can now apply, a revision from the earlier ₹10,000 limit.
- Previous disqualifications based on ownership of a mobile phone, refrigerator, or motorcycle have been removed, making more rural households eligible.
UP Leads in Rural Housing Construction
Uttar Pradesh has made significant progress under PMAY-G:
- 98% of the 36 lakh houses sanctioned in the existing phase have been completed.
- The state ranks first in rural housing construction under the scheme.
- The government has actively promoted the initiative through Gram Chaupals, organized in two villages per block every Friday. Since December 30, 2022, over 1.24 lakh Gram Chaupals have been conducted, resolving 4.67 lakh rural issues.
PMAY-G: Transforming Rural India
Launched on April 1, 2016, PMAY-G aims to provide 4.95 crore eligible rural households with basic amenities by March 2029. As of February 2025:
- 3.79 crore houses have been allocated to states and union territories.
- 3.34 crore houses have been sanctioned.
- 2.69 crore houses have been successfully constructed.
Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya emphasized that BJP-led government initiatives will play a crucial role in poverty alleviation, aiming to uplift an additional 15 crore people from poverty in the coming years.
With a digital-first approach, expanded beneficiary criteria, and ground-level outreach programs, Uttar Pradesh continues to lead in rural housing development, ensuring “Housing for All” becomes a reality.
