Crackdown on Gurugram Greenbelt Encroachments: GMDA Launches Survey and Anti-Encroachment Drive

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has launched a comprehensive survey to tackle the issue of Gurugram greenbelt encroachments. The survey targets greenbelts along sector roads in the city, aiming to eradicate encroachments that have plagued these areas. In collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), GMDA has distributed forms to gather detailed information on the current state of greenbelts in their respective areas. The forms also seek information on the presence of Gurugram greenbelt encroachments and the nature of any encroachments, if present. Residents have been encouraged to submit photographs supporting their claims of encroachment.

RS Batth, the district town planner of GMDA, emphasized the importance of citizen participation in enhancing the city’s landscape, especially in addressing the issue of Gurugram greenbelt encroachments. He stated, “In our effort to beautify the city landscape, citizen participation is paramount. We are collaborating closely with RWAs to gather details and address these issues.”

Additionally, GMDA has requested feedback on unauthorized access to sector roads. A special email ID will soon be created to address complaints related to encroachments in Gurugram greenbelts and the right of way (ROW) under GMDA’s jurisdiction. Batth emphasized that any encroachment on Gurugram greenbelts or ROW on the main sector dividing roads would be dealt with strictly, as illegal occupation not only affects urban planning but also disrupts the free flow of traffic.

Following the collection of information, GMDA plans to launch an anti-encroachment drive in the next 15 days, focusing on clearing Gurugram greenbelt encroachments and preventing future illegal occupations. The urban environment division will ensure the fencing of cleared areas to prevent further encroachments.

Recent visits by GMDA officials to sectors 4 and 7, as well as Ardee City, revealed encroachments on Gurugram greenbelts and ROW. Last week, the urban planning division successfully removed unauthorized access points on the dividing roads of sectors 46, 47, 56, and 57, which were created by laying tiles and constructing makeshift road networks.
