Gurugram C&D Waste Collection: 10,000 Tonnes Daily Target
In a proactive move to enhance cleanliness and tackle the growing issue of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has been directed to collect at least 10,000 tonnes of C&D waste daily. This decision was made during a review meeting of the Solid Waste Environment Exigency Programme (SWEEP), led by divisional commissioner RC Bidhan. The focus is on accelerating the collection process and ensuring that waste management is streamlined across the city.
As part of the initiative, MCG officials have been tasked with registering vehicles that collect C&D waste area-wise and setting fixed rates for their services. The goal is to speed up the waste collection process and improve the city’s cleanliness levels quickly.
To reinforce the effort, the MCG has emphasized that dumping garbage and debris in public areas is a punishable offense. In response, the corporation is actively taking stringent actions against offenders, including seizing vehicles, filing FIRs against responsible drivers and vehicle owners, and imposing substantial fines.
In a recent inspection, Balpreet Singh, additional commissioner of MCG, caught five vehicles in the act of illegally dumping waste at various locations, including near Sikanderpur metro pillar number 48. Singh took immediate action, filing FIRs and beginning the vehicle seizure process to hold offenders accountable.
This concerted effort is aimed at reducing illegal dumping and ensuring that Gurugram remains a cleaner and more sustainable city. With the daily collection target of 10,000 tonnes, the SWEEP initiative is poised to make significant strides in improving the city’s waste management infrastructure.
