Deadline Extended: Municipal Corporation of Delhi Extends Geo-Tagging Deadline to June 30

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has extended the properties geo-tagging deadline to June 30, providing taxpayers with additional time to register their properties with the civic body. This decision was made due to technical glitches and other issues that prevented many taxpayers from registering their properties on the MCD portal.

Geo-tagging deadline

In a recent official order, the Assessment and Collection Department of the MCD announced the extension, noting that many taxpayers had not yet completed the mandatory geo-tagging process. Failure to geo-tag a property by June 30 will result in the taxpayer being ineligible for the tax rebate on lump sum payments in the current financial year 2024-25.

Geo-tagging of properties involves assigning a unique latitude-longitude coordinate to a property on a GIS map, linked to a Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC). This allows for the identification of each property’s location, enabling better service delivery by the MCD.

The MCD had made geo-tagging mandatory for all properties in December last year to avail property tax exemption. This extension aims to provide taxpayers with a further opportunity to comply with the requirement and avoid missing out on benefits.

By extending the deadline, the MCD hopes to ensure that all properties are accurately geo-tagged, contributing to better service provision and tax compliance.
