Delhi Land Scam Investigation: Revenue Officials Under Probe
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved an Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) probe into an alleged land scam involving three former officials of the Revenue Department in Hauz Khas, South Delhi. This high-profile Delhi land scam investigation also includes directives for the Vigilance Department to expedite the case against the then Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) involved in the matter.
Case Background
The controversy at the center of this Delhi land scam investigation involves the alleged sale of government-owned land, originally acquired by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in 1965, to private individuals. The land, identified as Khasra Number 351, was reportedly demarcated as private property in 2019 after Bala Devi filed an application with the SDM office in Hauz Khas.
Revenue officials identified one bigha and five biswa out of the total 44 bigha and 19 biswa as private land. However, the DDA later contested this, claiming the land was illegally occupied and subsequently reclaimed after demolishing unauthorized structures. Despite the DDA’s assertion and clear revenue records indicating the land was government property, officials issued a fraudulent No Objection Certificate (NOC) that facilitated the illegal sale deed.
Key Individuals Under Scrutiny
As part of the Delhi land scam investigation, three former Revenue Department officials—Sub-Registrar DC Sahoo, Kanungo Ramesh Kumar, and Tehsildar Anil Kumar—have come under scrutiny. Their alleged involvement in issuing the NOC and registering the sale deed of acquired land has led to significant financial losses for the government.
Vigilance Tightened
In light of delays in processing corruption-related cases, the Vigilance Department has been directed to adhere strictly to the timelines outlined in the Prevention of Corruption Act. The statement underscores the need for prompt action in sensitive cases to ensure accountability.
