Yamuna Expressway Land Acquisition Survey and Development

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is conducting a survey to reassess 36 land acquisition attempts that previously failed to materialize. This initiative aims to bolster the Authority’s land bank and curb illegal construction activities. Initiated in 2012, YEIDA planned to acquire over 6,317 hectares of land across 36 villages, primarily in sectors 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23, and 24. However, as YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh noted, the Yamuna Expressway land acquisition process often stalled at the planning stage. The current survey aims to guarantee that all land earmarked for development is appropriately secured.

The initial Yamuna Expressway land acquisition efforts faced significant resistance from farmers, who protested against the low compensation rates offered. This led to numerous grievances being taken to the Allahabad High Court, resulting in stay orders that halted the acquisitions. In response to these protests, the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, was introduced and came into effect on January 1, 2014.

The ongoing survey also aims to identify and address encroachments and illegal land sales. Recently, YEIDA issued notices to over 300 encroachers in areas such as Jewar, Jahangirpur in GB Nagar, Mathura, Tappal in Aligarh, and Jhajar in Bulandshahr, instructing them to remove unauthorized structures. To prevent further illegal activities, the Authority plans to erect fences and notice boards on the acquired lands as part of the Yamuna Expressway land acquisition efforts.

Upon completing the survey, YEIDA intends to launch various development projects, including residential and group housing schemes, as well as transport initiatives. This strategic move is expected to enhance urban development and meet the growing demand for residential, commercial, and institutional land near the Noida International Airport.

The Yamuna Expressway Authority’s renewed focus on securing land for development underscores its commitment to structured urban growth and the prevention of illegal land activities. By addressing past challenges and implementing robust anti-encroachment measures, YEIDA aims to create a sustainable and well-planned urban environment.
