Action Against Unauthorized Gates in Gurugram Colonies

In a significant move to improve safety and ensure smooth urban development, the Gurugram administration has decided to take strict action against unauthorized gates in residential colonies. These gates, often installed by Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), have been found in licensed colonies and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) sectors.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ajay Kumar emphasized that public safety is a priority. “RWAs must follow the rules. Unauthorized gates in Gurugram will be removed, and those who don’t comply will face consequences,” he said during a recent meeting.

The Growing Issue of Unauthorized Gates in Gurugram

The decision comes after a rise in complaints about RWAs installing unauthorized gates in place of the approved boom barriers. These gates have been causing serious problems, especially during emergencies. In some cases, gates were locked at night, with no way for residents to access roads in urgent situations.

ACP (DLF) Vikas Kaushik brought attention to these issues, noting how locked gates prevented timely access and posed a danger to public safety.

What the Administration Plans to Do

To address the problem, the Deputy Commissioner has asked the District Town Planner, Enforcement (DTPE), to:

  • Review all previously granted permissions for boom barriers.
  • Visit sites to check for unauthorized gates in Gurugram.
  • Take action against those not following the rules.

DTP(E) Amit Madholia explained that boom barrier permissions come with strict guidelines, including the need for CCTV cameras, security personnel, and regular inspections. Unauthorized gates that don’t meet these requirements will be promptly removed.

What Happens Next

The administration has paused approvals for new boom barrier installations until a full review of current permissions is completed. RWAs caught installing unauthorized gates in Gurugram will face penalties, including the removal of the gates.

RWAs are encouraged to remove unauthorized gates voluntarily to avoid enforcement actions. The goal is to improve security while keeping public access open, all in line with urban planning regulations.

This action signals the administration’s commitment to addressing public concerns and ensuring proper development in Gurugram. Inspections will begin soon, and a team will be formed to ensure compliance across the city.
