Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, V K Saxena, has expressed significant concern regarding the prolonged delay spanning over two decades in finalizing lease deeds for the allocation of flats under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme (RGHS), according to officials from Raj Niwas.
The delay has impacted beneficiaries eagerly awaiting accommodation under the RGHS-I and RGHS-II, initiated back in 2003-04 and 2006-07 respectively.
Despite the scheme’s inception over a decade ago, the draft lease deeds necessary for flat allotments only reached the Lieutenant Governor’s desk for approval in January 2024, causing considerable frustration among the 5,311 awaiting allottees.
In a bid to address the issue and expedite the process, Saxena has taken proactive steps by facilitating the execution of lease deeds for flat allotments under various schemes in Bawana and Narela, northwest Delhi.
However, the delay has not gone unnoticed, as Saxena has directed the administrative department to hold officers accountable for the prolonged processing of lease deeds and to take decisive action against those responsible.
Furthermore, he has instructed the concerned secretary to conduct a comprehensive review of all delayed matters, streamline their processing, and resubmit them within a strict timeline of three weeks.
This move by the Lieutenant Governor underscores the critical importance of timely execution and delivery of housing schemes, particularly the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme, aimed at providing affordable housing solutions to deserving beneficiaries.
Such initiatives play a pivotal role in addressing the housing needs of vulnerable sections of society and contribute to the overall development and welfare of the community.
