MCD Mobile App Glitches Resolved: Taxpayers Urged to Meet Property Tax Deadline

More than two lakh taxpayers have successfully geo-tagged their properties using the MCD mobile app, which has now resolved all glitches, including those on iOS devices. The MCD has clarified that there will be no extension of the Feb 29 deadline for taxpayers seeking a 10% rebate on advance payment of property tax.Despite this, some residents are encountering difficulties in receiving updated information after uploading the mobile app. The MCD has assured that the app is functioning smoothly on both Android and iOS systems, expecting heavy traffic and positive feedback in the final days of the month.

A public notice issued by the MCD stated that all technical glitches related to the iOS version have been sorted out, and taxpayers can now download the unified mobile app (UMA) on both Android and iOS devices. To avail of the 10% rebate on lump sum payment for 2024-25, taxpayers are advised to pay the tax in advance. Additionally, those who have not yet filed their taxes for the current financial year 2023-24 are encouraged to do so by Mar 31.

As of Tuesday, 11.4 lakh people have submitted their property tax, compared to 13.3 lakh in the previous financial year by March 31. Sanjay Rana, the general secretary of GK-II RWA, shared his experience of geo-tagging his property through another person’s Android phone but faced issues verifying the information on his iPhone. Officials suggest that individuals with older iPhone versions should update their software to use the app seamlessly.

SB Singh, president of Lajpat Nagar III RWA, had a similar experience of geo-tagging his property through someone else’s Android phone but can now access the information on his iPhone. Ashok Aggarwal of Safdarjung Enclave managed to download the app, input all the necessary information, and geo-tag his property in one go using his iPhone a month ago.

To assist taxpayers, some residents’ welfare associations are conducting demonstrations and hiring staff to aid those in need. PK Paul of East Bengal Displaced Persons’ Association, CR Park, mentioned that they recently conducted two sessions for residents, especially iPhone users, to help them geo-tag their properties. Similarly, in Lajpat Nagar, such camps are being organized. Residents are being asked to submit a Google form with property details, and RWA members are assisting them. However, many queries remain unanswered, prompting calls for an extension of the deadline by Rana.
