GMDA’s New Enforcement and Land Procurement Cells Tackle Gurugram’s Encroachment Issues

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has taken a proactive approach to address the issue of encroachments by establishing two specialized cells — enforcement and land procurement cells. These cells are tasked with ensuring the integrity of sector roads and green spaces within GMDA’s jurisdiction.

The enforcement cell, under the leadership of GMDA district town planner RS Batth, will play a crucial role in identifying and addressing illegal constructions in 42 villages under GMDA’s purview. Conducting surveys to pinpoint unauthorized structures, the cell will also oversee the procurement of land for upcoming infrastructure projects. It will work in close coordination with other key agencies like the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG).

One of the primary focuses of the enforcement cell is to conduct demolition drives against unauthorized constructions in controlled areas. Batth emphasized the importance of adhering to the legal framework, stating that change in land use and other mandatory permissions must be obtained before any construction activity takes place. Additionally, the cell is committed to maintaining the integrity of green belts by preventing any encroachments.

The objective of these cells is to streamline efforts across various departments and agencies to tackle encroachment issues comprehensively. By involving different wings of concerned departments, GMDA aims to ensure that encroachers do not redevelop demolished areas. Cleared areas will be secured with fences and barricades to deter future encroachments, thereby safeguarding public spaces and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the land procurement cell will focus on resolving long-standing issues related to land availability and encroachment that have stalled several infrastructure projects, especially those related to road development. This cell will actively engage with landowners and other stakeholders to facilitate the acquisition of land and expedite the completion of these projects.

In conclusion, GMDA’s initiative to establish these cells reflects its commitment to addressing the challenges posed by encroachments and advancing infrastructure development in Gurugram.
